Report a Concern
If you or someone you know experienced a concerning incident, the WGC is here to help you navigate the reporting process. There are many different incidents worth reporting, including bias, sexual misconduct, Title IX violations, and more.
Report a ConcernWhat are gender pronouns and why are they important? Let¡¯s learn together!
Pronouns are tools used to refer to people. The correct use of someone’s gender pronouns acts as an important recognition of that person’s identity. More commonly recognized pronouns might include she/her/hers, he/him/his, or they/them/theirs. People who identify as non-binary may use neopronouns such as ze/zir/zirs, and it is always their choice to determine what pronouns are most affirming and comfortable for them.
Introducing yourself with your pronouns is a helpful way of inviting others to share theirs. For example, “My name is Taylor and I use she/her/hers pronouns; what are your pronouns?” It is also acceptable to ask someone about their pronouns directly in a respectful and friendly manner. Questions like “What pronouns do you use?”, “What are your affirming pronouns?”, or “How would you like me to refer to you?” are acceptable and helpful ways to respect someone’s identity.
A person’s gender identity can change over time, so it’s important to recognize that their gender pronouns may also change. Mistakes happen, but honest apologies and timely corrections demonstrate that you respect their identity.
