After Hours Instructions

If you need medical support after hours that cannot wait until the Student Health Center is open, you may use the University of Vermont Medical Center Emergency Department, a variety of local urgent care clinics, or contact your primary care office.

When to go to the ER vs. an Urgent Care Clinic

Whether you choose to visit the emergency room or an urgent care clinic depends on the type and severity of your ailment.

The purpose of the Emergency Room is to assess and treat people who are in danger of losing their lives (or limbs!). If you go to the emergency room when you do not have a true emergency, you will likely spend time waiting and more money.

Urgent care centers are walk-in clinics (no appointment necessary) for immediate health concerns that do not require a trip to the emergency room. We recommend calling your insurance provider prior to arrival to best understand your coverage.

Emergency Assistance

If this is a medical emergency, call 911.
If you¡¯re a student on campus requiring immediate assistance, call Campus Public Safety (802) 865-6465.
