Accreditation

Champlain College is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education.

Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the New England Commission indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied through a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the New England Commission is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.

Professional Licensures

Traditional Undergraduate Programs

  • Our Accounting program is designed to teach accounting and business skills and is not designed to prepare students for a CPA license. Our program contains 120 credits and therefore does not contain the 150 credits required to sit for the CPA exam in Vermont. Students in Vermont will need to complete additional coursework to be eligible for the CPA exam.

The College has not determined whether the Accounting program meets the education requirements for CPA licensure in any other state (or the District of Columbia). Please find your state of residence on the NASBA website to learn more about what is required to sit for the CPA exam in your state.

  • All Champlain College teacher education programs are approved by the Vermont Agency of Education (VT AOE). Each concentration in our traditional Education program corresponds to a teaching licensure endorsement.

Champlain College’s Teacher Apprenticeship Program (TAP) is an eight-month, non-degree certificate program that includes coursework and student teaching with a mentor teacher. TAP prepares candidates who already hold a bachelor’s degree to become licensed directly through the Vermont Agency of Education.

Champlain College has not determined whether the Education programs meet the education requirements for professional licensure in any state (or the District of Columbia) other than Vermont. However, Vermont teaching licenses are reciprocal in most states subject to any applicable state requirements. Educators with a Vermont license may be eligible to apply for license certifications out of state through reciprocity under the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certifications’ (NASDTEC) Interstate Teacher Mobility Compact.

  • Champlain College’s Social Work program is accredited by the?Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), and it therefore meets the requirements for licensure to practice as a social worker in all fifty states and the District of Columbia.
