Understanding Sources of Aid
Gift Aid
Gift Aid is a form of financial assistance that generally does not have to be repaid. This includes scholarships, grants and waivers and can come from Champlain College, federal and state governments, or outside organizations.
Borrowed Aid
Borrowed Aid is commonly known as a loan and requires repayment usually with interest. Loans are available through the federal government and from private lenders.
Earned Aid Through Employment
Employment aid is earned as a paycheck throughout the semester. This part-time employment includes Federal Work-Study and other employment opportunities. Earnings do not have to be repaid, but are not automatically applied to your bill either.
Types of Aid
Merit-Based Aid
Champlain College recognizes students with notable academic achievements by awarding merit-based scholarships. This aid does not have to be repaid. Awarded regardless of financial need, you are automatically considered with your application to the College.
Need-Based Aid
A combination of grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study student employment options comprise the need-based options at Champlain College. You must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered.
Other Aid
Other types of aid are generally based on a variety of requirements such as military or veteran status.
