  • Report Sex Discrimination and Sexual Misconduct

    Champlain College prohibits sexual or gender-based discrimination, harassment, and misconduct, including sexual assault, non-consensual sexual contact, sexual exploitation, intimate partner violence, and stalking, under the Sex Discrimination and Sexual Misconduct Policy. The Sex Discrimination and Sexual Misconduct Policy also prohibits retaliation against a person because they have reported, complained about, or participated in good faith in an investigation of conduct covered by this Policy.

    Conversations with the Title IX Coordinator and deputies are kept as private as possible, but information about incidents of sexual misconduct may be shared on a need-to-know basis for the College to provide supportive measures or if the College needs to take action for reasons of community safety. In all cases, the wishes of the person initiating the conversation are given full consideration.

  • Report an Issue of Discrimination or Harassment

    Discrimination is mistreatment of an individual that unreasonably interferes with their academic and professional experience and is based on certain characteristics or perceived differences related to group identity or affiliation that are protected by law or recognized within a Champlain College policy. Harassment, a form of discrimination that includes creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working or educational environment.

    Individuals should contact the following with any discrimination or harassment complaints or inquiries concerning compliance with regulations:

    Complaints against faculty and staff: Should be directed to the faculty or staff member¡¯s direct supervisor or the Provost and Academic Affairs Office and the Chief Operating Operating Officer.

  • Report a Bias Incident

    A bias incident is any conduct, speech, images, or expression that demonstrate conscious or unconscious bias which targets individuals or groups based on, but not limited to, their actual or perceived: age, disability, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, immigration status, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, size, socioeconomic status/class, veteran status or on the basis of any other status protected by law or recognized within a Champlain College policy.

    A bias incident is an offensive act that is neither criminal, nor a violation of the Sexual Misconduct Policy, the Discrimination and Harassment Policy, the Student Code of Conduct or other College Policies. However, if a bias-related incident falls within the scope and definitions of the aforementioned policies, it will be addressed through those processes. Bias will be deemed an aggravating circumstance to any violation of College policy.

    • Calling a person or a behavior ¡°gay,¡± ¡°lame,¡± or ¡°retarded¡± as an insult
    • Imitating someone with any kind of disability or imitating someone¡¯s cultural attire, norms, or practices
    • Telling jokes based on a cultural stereotype
    • Derogatory graffiti or images/drawings
    • Using a racial or ethnic slur to identify someone
    • Making comments on social media about someone¡¯s age, disability, ethnicity, race, national origin, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, size, or religion.

  • Report a Student Conduct Incident

    Most documented violations of college policy will result in a meeting with a conduct officer. The most effective strategy we have in managing conduct issues is one-on-one contact with students. Conduct officers are caring, student-centered individuals who possess the skills to interact with students and families.

    Complete this form to report student conduct issues including, but not limited to:

    • academic dishonesty
    • disorderly conduct
    • alcohol and other drugs
    • harassment
    • vandalism

  • Report a Student of Concern

    Faculty, staff, friends, and family are frequently in a position to observe student behaviors that indicate distress or potentially compromised personal wellbeing. If you have a concern about a student who is displaying behaviors that are concerning, worrisome, or threatening from a health and wellness context, please refer them to the Care Team.

    Referrals to the Care Team are received and reviewed within one business day of submission. You may or may not be contacted to provide any additional information. Please know that any delay in contacting the source of the referral does not indicate a delay in the referral being acted upon.

  • As defined by Vermont law, a hate crime is a crime that is maliciously motivated by the victim¡¯s actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity, ancestry, age, service in the armed forces of the United States, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity is a hate crime. Hate crimes should be reported to your local law enforcement agency. Prosecutors can seek increased penalties for hate crimes, including longer jail sentences and higher fines.
