Frequently Asked Questions

1. When should I submit the FAFSA?

We recommend submitting your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible. You can even submit it now while the system is in beta testing. If you need to make corrections after submission, you can easily do so without any penalty.

2. What is the CSS Profile, and do I need to submit it?

The CSS Profile is a form required by many private colleges, and this year, Champlain will be offering the CSS Lite because of the delays and complications with the FAFSA. All students are reviewed independent of need for Champlain Merit Scholarships, but in order for us to assess you for need-based aid you¡¯ll need to submit the CSS Profile, and to receive federal aid, you¡¯ll need to also fill out the FAFSA. Our Financial Aid team is happy to assist you with any questions you may have as you navigate this form.

3. What types of financial aid are available at Champlain College?

Champlain College offers a variety of financial aid options:

  • Federal Financial Aid: This includes Pell Grants, Federal Work-Study, and Federal Student Loans, based on your FAFSA submission.
  • Institutional Aid: Champlain offers merit-based scholarships, grants, and need-based financial aid, all designed to help make college more affordable.
  • State and Federal Loan Forgiveness Programs: Champlain students may be eligible for loan forgiveness programs, such as those offered by the Department of Defense for Cybersecurity majors and other state-specific options.

4. What if I miss the FAFSA deadline or need help?

Don¡¯t worry! Even if you miss a deadline, it¡¯s important to submit your FAFSA as soon as possible. Our Financial Aid Office is here to help, and you can reach out for assistance with filling out the forms, making corrections, or understanding the next steps.
