Alumni Business Spotlight: Meet Caitlyn Grad

Caitlyn Grad ’23 has seamlessly blended her online studies at Champlain College with her entrepreneurial endeavors to become a force in the marketing and communications field. Q: Could you share a bit about your personal background and how your experience as an online student at Champlain College shaped your journey?

A: I’m Caitlyn Grad, a marketing and communications professional in 足彩胜负14场, Connecticut. I graduated from Champlain College in December 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Communications. Attending Champlain College allowed me the time and flexibility to grow my marketing business while in school. I also had the opportunity to do freelance work for Champlain’s new website, and this experience has opened many doors and opportunities for which I’m truly grateful. I owe a debt of gratitude to the teachers, classmates, and courses that helped me along the way.

Q: We’re eager to learn more about your entrepreneurial venture. What inspired you to start your own marketing business, and what services do you offer to your clients?

A: I help local Connecticut businesses with social media management, content creation, marketing strategy, and email marketing. I started my business after closing down my first one in 2022, a jewelry business, as I found my passion to be marketing rather than making jewelry. I began consulting with other small businesses on their marketing and decided to go full-time with my marketing business in July 2023. I’ve been freelancing for a few years now, and I’ve already had the opportunity to work with many industries, including e-commerce, nonprofits, human resources, construction, education, med spas, music, hair salons, and artists. I’m excited to continue growing and seeing what opportunities and doors open next.

Q: Embarking on an entrepreneurial path is both exhilarating and challenging. What valuable lessons or advice would you offer to aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners, especially those balancing their ventures with online studies?

A: The advice I would give to aspiring entrepreneurs is: don’t price yourself low because you think no one will pay. There’s a market for everyone, and you’ve gained plenty of experience from Champlain classes. Charge what you are worth, articulate the value, and you will find your clients. Something I wish I knew when I got started was that marketing online is great, but the real magic happens with in-person networking and building relationships. If you can learn how to network, your business will do well.
