a student paints the LGBTQ+ pride flag crosswalk on campus

A new academic year calls for a fresh coat of paint! Students and staff repainted the Pride and Black Lives Matter crosswalks outside of the IDX Student Life Center earlier this fall.

The Student Government Association (SGA), Office of Diversity & Inclusion, Women’s & Gender Center, Include+, and Shades of Me joined together to celebrate the diversity of identities represented by students on the Champlain College campus.

“As someone who exists at the intersections of racism, transphobia, and
queerphobia, I¡¯m proud to see these physical representations of our collective commitment to fighting systems of oppression, here on campus and beyond,” said SGA Director of Diversity & Engagement Jayy Covert ’21 (they/them) during the event’s opening remarks.

“Now, let’s ensure that our commitment is not just paint on asphalt, but is real, meaningful action,” they added.
